What is a computer virus and the differences between worms and trojans

A computer virus attaches itself to a program or file so it can spread from one computer to another, leaving infections depending on where it goes.

Some viruses cause only mildly annoying effects while others can damage your hardware, software or files.

Almost all viruses are linked into an executable file (. Exe), which means that the virus can exist on your computer but can not infect your computer unless you run or open the malicious program. It ‘important to note that a virus can not spread without human action, (such as running an infected program) to go forward.

People continue to spread computer viruses, mostly unknowingly, by sharing infecting files or sending e-mails with viruses as attachments in e-mail or via filehosting

Differences between worms and trojan?

Worm
A Worm is similar to a virus diffondeda computer to computer, but unlike a virus, has the ability to travel without any help of a person. A worm takes advantage of file or the transport functions on your system, which allows travel between computers without human help. The biggest danger with a worm is its ability to replicate itself onto the system, in order to create offspring that could send out hundreds or thousands of copies of itself, creating a huge devastating effect.

Trojan
A Trojan is full of trickery as the mythological Trojan horse. The Trojan Horse, at first glance appears to be a useful software, but actually does damage once installed or run on your computer.

The Trojan is usually a Windows executable, therefore, must have an extension as an executable file. Exe,. Com,. Scr,. Bat o. Pif. Since Windows is sometimes configured by default to hide file extensions from a user, the Trojan horse is an extension that could be “masked” by giving it a name such as’ Readme.txt. exe ‘. With file extensions hidden, the user can only see ‘Readme.txt’ and could accidentally mistake it for a text file.

When a Trojan is activated on your computer, your results may vary. Some are designed to be more annoying than malicious (like changing your desktop, add icons) or they can cause serious damage by deleting files and destroying information on your system.
